Add Aurora

How to add Aurora to your Discord server, and why it asks for the permissions it asks for.

Before you start#

You need the Manage Server permission on the Discord server you want to add Aurora to.

Add the bot#

  1. Use the Add Aurora button at the top of this site or on aurorahq.de.

  2. Choose your server in Discord's authorization screen.

  3. Review the permissions and confirm.

Aurora is added with the bot and applications.commands scopes. Its slash commands appear in your server right after.

Permissions Aurora asks for#

Aurora does not ask for Administrator. It asks for the permissions its features use:

  • Kick Members

  • Ban Members

  • Manage Channels

  • Add Reactions

  • View Channel

  • Send Messages

  • Manage Messages

  • Embed Links

  • Attach Files

  • Read Message History

  • Connect

  • Move Members

  • Manage Nicknames

  • Manage Roles

  • Create Public Threads

  • Send Messages in Threads

  • Moderate Members

Moderation needs Kick, Ban, Manage Messages, Manage Nicknames, Manage Roles and Moderate Members. Logging, tickets, the starboard and Bot Control need View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files and Read Message History. Temporary voice rooms need Manage Channels, Connect and Move Members. Automatic threads and suggestion threads need the thread permissions. Aurora never asks for Mention Everyone; pinging everyone through Bot Control needs that permission to be granted to Aurora's role on purpose.

Role position matters#

Discord only lets a bot manage roles and members below its own highest role. Move Aurora's role above the roles it should manage, such as reward roles, autoroles and the roles it quarantines.
